Playoff Baseball

Playoff baseball, the culmination of the American pastime. baseball basics, and how baseball playoff work.

Baseball evolved out of several different “bat and ball” games such as English Rounders, Cricket,
and American Town Ball that had been around for centuries.

Alexander Cartwright wrote down the firt rules for Base Ball, and many of them are still
fundamental, including the concepts of:

Fair and foul territory;
Three strikes per out;
Three outs per inning;
Nine players per side;
Ninety feet between bases.
He also outlawed the Town Ball practice of “soaking a runner,” which allowed a defender to hit
a runner with the ball to get him out the game.

The first baseball game played under these new rules took place on June 19, 1846 between
Cartwright’s Knickerbockers and another squad known as the New York Nine.

Basics of bassball

You are only allowed nine players ob the field.

There are nine innings in a baseball game in which each team gets a chance to try and score as many runs as possible in only three outs.

The team that isn’t batting is playing defense.

There is an umpire behind the plate that lets everyone know if the pitch thrown was in the strike zone or not.

Know the infield. There is first, second, third, and finally home plate. The infield is shaped like a diamond.

In order to get an out while playing defense, the defensive team must catch the baseball before it hits the ground or throw the baseball to a base before the runner gets there. In order to win the game a team must score more runs than the opposing team.

Know all the rules.

Know how to appeal a call. If the defensive team believes that one of the base runners missed one of the bases or they didn’t follow the designated path, then they can appeal a call.

How playoffs baseball work

there’s two leagues (AL and NL) each of which has three divisions (east, central and west).

at the end of the year, whichever team in each division has the best record, they earn a playoff
slot.

Also, the best 2nd place team in the AL and NL is awarded a “wild card” playoff slot.

This results in 8 total playoff teams.

The first round is called the Division Series, and there are two of them in each league (4 series, by a total of eight teams).

The winners of the two AL division series’ then play each other in the AL Championship series, and likewise in the NL.

The winners of the ALCS and the NLCS then play each other in the World Series.

Whoever wins the world series is the champs!

The “Seeding” goes like this:

The best team in each league plays the Wild card team in round 1, UNLESS they are in the same division; in which case the best team plays the next-worst playoff team in his league. (the remaining two teams obviously play in the other LCS).
